My decision to become a nutritionist was based on my love of cooking and eating! It started out nearly 30 years ago, when I had opportunity to cook and feed large numbers of people while living in community. I still love to cook (and eat) but I realized along the way, that my passion for food went beyond just cooking. I wanted to learn about the nutrients and healing attributes contained in different foods and how they could augment one’s physical body. And, most of all, I wanted to help people.

In 2001, I decided to train as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) thru the Edison Institute of Nutrition. I also completed a Certificate in Community Counselling Skills through Vancouver Community College. For the past 16 years, I have been part of the Callanish Society team that offers week-long retreats near Whistler, BC for people of all ages with cancer. I have experience cooking at the Crossroads Hospice Society in Port Moody; my services also include those of a Personal Chef through my personal business, Holzono Nutrition.

I’ve used my own body as an experimental laboratory, you might say. I've learned and made correlations with what foods worked and which didn’t for myself. When I say worked, I mean, those that made my digestion run smoothly, gave me energy and stamina, a strong immune system and a steady mood. Health is after all a combination of physical, mental and emotional states in balance. It is a fine balance that can easily be disrupted though should we become negligent or lazy in our attitude towards our health or perhaps, the day to day demands of stress take their toll. There are so many factors to consider.

The one thing for sure is that our body is ever-changing and it is possible that the need for different nutrients may also shift and change as we age. I can tell you firsthand that in my 40’s there was perimenopause, in my 50’s it was all about menopause and now as I enter my 60’s – well, I’ll let you know! I feel so fortunate to be able to share my firsthand experiences with other women who may need support, have questions and wonder what to eat and perhaps even what vitamins to take.

As a nutritionist, I get great satisfaction from helping people find their way to a balanced state of health. Current food and nutrition trends are overwhelming many of us, creating havoc and obsessive dietary habits. My mandate is to be a part of the solution not the problem by helping people identify specifically what foods and diet will work for them. Whether it be gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan or vegetarian - to name a few - everyone's food choices are unique. There is no one diet that works for all! Until I meet with you and really get to know you, I have no idea what you should be eating!

Perhaps a medical diagnosis, a food allergy or a food sensitivity has dictated that you need to make a change in what you eat. Regardless of why, I would love to work together with you to figure out what your body’s current requirements are. I often tell people now that one has to become like a detective with their own body to really listen and pay attention to the clues the body gives off in order to communicate with us. We have to pay attention to understand and hear what our body is trying to tell us.

I invite you to work with me on a journey of nurturing yourself back to a place of comfort and wholeness. I have many years of experience and various tools that I will draw from to help you. Contact me today – I offer a free 30 minute chat before you need to commit. After that we can either meet in person (Powell River and the Sunshine Coast area) or via the comfort of your home (Facetime and/or Skype).

I hope to hear from you!
